eidolonTLP: The mystery continues...

This is developing at a rate of knots.....real or unreal. I find it to be a nice diversion from my day. Here is the latest installment of eidolonTLP

Embrace uncertainty indeed!

I was recently invited by a friend to attend a lecture by the author Nassim Nicholas Taleb author of "fooled by randomness" and "The Black swan" of course I agree with his premise whole heartedly. Nothing is certain and the only guarantee is change. Thus I subscribe. It seems to me that many of people in the audience at the LSE public lecture were quite insulted by the idea that most people are successful through luck. In fact one guy shouted from the balcony that his ideas were pointless and pretty much absurd.....and that its easy to say that there will be another market crash and professed the next one was a certainty. I found to be quite funny, he obviously didn't understand the premise....Taleb is interested in the reasons behind black swans as much as that fact that they will exist. We say, "confusion makes you smarter". So embrace uncertainty because everyone is ignorant...the more you know the less you understand. Once you think you've got the sphere of knowledge licked you are heading for a fall. Stay stupid, stay confused and be ignorant.

Dumb it down? what for? My audience will find me!

Do we ever have to dumb it down again? Personally I don't think so - Fame is a fleeting concept, why not build networks of people that you can drop in with, drop out with. The cost of music production is falling everyday, People are getting smarter, getting to grips younger. Businesses are going into freefall, the world is heading into a global recession. Lets never dumb it down again....Let create like we have our whole life to do it. We don't really need big business anymore.....decentralise the process - See your music through to the final verse, say what you want and move on. The musical event, Launch, paradigm shifting album is something of the past and a product of an industry that exploits creativity......START TO EXPLOIT YOURSELF>>>>>> I was listening to immortal technique the other day and he is on this tip. I guess being cool is just doing what you always have done, but getting recognised for it....

Lupes lyrics make sense to me

You've been shedding too much light Lu (Dumb it down)
You make'em wanna do right Lu (Dumb it down)
They're getting self-esteem Lu (Dumb it down)
These girls are trying to be queens Lu (Dumb it down)
They're trying to graduate from school Lu (Dumb it down)
They're starting to think that smart is cool Lu (Dumb it down)
They're trying to get up out the hood Lu (Dumb it down)
I'll tell you what you should do (Dumb it down)

Karma banque

Karma banque is awesome started listening to this about a year and a half ago. The presenter said that gold would double in price and guess what it has...They operate a show on Resonance fm and also do alot of T.V work for Al jazeera TV network(largest in the world). I love these guys purely because they talk from the heart and the head and are running a campaign to reduce the value of Coca cola's stock. Plus the presenters are nice too....The latest show is presented from Essouria in Morroco. This town is crazy, called the windy city and is built on the fact that Jimmy Hendrix stayed there for a couple of nights.....the lyric "castles made of sand" is supposed to originate from here too. Which is nice...I have to say that I had a great time when I was there....If I wasn't feasting on fresh fish I was hmmmmm......having a chilled one!!! They talk quite alot abou the future of the economy....alot of interesting unadulterated facts here guys some of it can be quite scary to listen too. Going on their previous predictions they have integrity. Check out the podcasts they are very interesting http://karmabanqueradio.com

Punctuation is everything -----

An English professor wrote these words

"A woman without her man is nothing"

on the chalkboard and asked his students to   punctuate it correctly.

All of the   males in the class wrote:
"A   woman, without her man, is nothing."

All the   females in the class wrote:
"A   woman: without her, man is nothing."

 Punctuation is everything

Herbert Marcuse

I have been reading One dimensional man by Herbert Marcuse and have realised that I am one dimensional. This has to change....But how? I guess this is the journey one must make through life.....The point is, in the modern world there is no reason to be one dimensional - the real world is an illusion and most needs are false - What does this mean ------- Intriguing. Well if that was too heavy for you then this should bring you back to earth.....He is a "RADICAL RAT"

Erm.....just one more thing!! "cancelled"

Columbo_2 I have often affectionately been accused of looking like Columbo. I am not embarrased because in the world of lateral thinkers Columbo is probably up there with the best of them. Not much is known about this monster of matinee murder mystery. Most information gathered has been gleaned from various T.V episodes - who knows if this is trues,  the big C could have been lying to gain rapport with suspects!! We know that Columbo is a hot shot pool player (Taught by his father, who doesn't earn more than $5k) and never reveals his true "genius level" of intelligence. We know that he likes chilli and drives a beat up old car and always need to know one more thing.  Never outwitted by the most cunning criminal mind, he often plays the arrogant suspect and entices them to show their true sociopathic colours!. A fan I am. I am confident enough to say that in a fist fight columbo could have Poirot(no weapons), Angelica Fletcher and Father Dowling. Which in some places could be considered controversial. tonight I am on a mission to meet Columbo. I an intrigued to find out Columbos First name and perhaps to meet the ever evasive Mrs Columbo! Peter falk is going to be in Waterstones Picadilly tonight to promote his new book "just one more thing".

No one escapes the net of columbo!! "Come quietly, Your too classy a woman!"

*UPDATE****** cancelled due to illness - Apologies*********UPDATE** BUMMER!

Conversations with History

Lanier I would like to recommend UCTV and Conversations with history. I just watched an interview with Jaron Lanier.....well he doesn't have a single degree, he flunked out of art school at 17 and oh he invented virtual reality....So second life, well, he invented it. He talks about lots of different things, including the forced collaboration within tools like Micro-soft word, and seems pretty decent overall. Watch it here. He also posts on the huffington post here !! There are many video conversations with various people...the influences range across the entire spectrum of knowledge.

Enjoy!

Forward thinker

Orwell_2Yes he's one of my heroes.....but sometimes in moments of contemplation I find myself asking wether he predicted or un-intentionally authored the future Geo political landscape......I mean could it be possible that Orwell was so ahead of his time that he actually created a blueprint for future society?

Just a thought....

Also I was reading a post on Orwell here, It sets out the rules of writing, well writing in the style of Orwell.....Wasn't one for fancy fancy writing....Plain and get to the point....How I like it....

Eric Hoffer

I had a great moment yesterday. I was looking through my wallet cleaning it out and I found an old piece of newspaper. At first I thought it was a £5 note that I had forgotten about, turns out it was much more valuable than that. In an instant I remembered why I had ripped it out. It had a quote, an aphormism that caught my attention. It said

"In order to understand what scares your enemy look at the tactics he uses to scare you"

I remember reading it on a tube train and thinking wow thats a pretty neat insight. It was a quote from Eric Hoffer (philosopher). Being the curious cat that I am I decided to check wikipedia to find out more about this mystery philosopher. I am glad I did. I found a very interesting character. Self educated, working class hero philosopher who had many many original ideas. Yesterday was a good day. I think I new friend in ideas.

A universal guy, I am only at the tip of the iceberg but what I have seen I like. check him out
