Nice surprises

I was out for a sunday walk in my home town and I bought a book from Oxfam - The X-files/lost fan came out and - on a whim -  I picked up "The secrets of cold war technology" - I have passing fondness for NikolaTesla and his wacky inventions and at £2.00 - What a bargain -when it turns out its actually going for about £150 on some websites - I didn't realise conspiracy could be so profitable!

P.J O'Rourke - Eat the rich

Every other weekend I make a homage to my local oxfam in search of used books. I consider this a decent way to give to charity. I have found some awesome books over the last few months...I won't bore you with the details of a book about the structure of cities and the cultures that develop in them! Although it is fascinating.

I recently bought a book called "eat the rich" by P.J O'Rourke. I am sure you have heard of him. Hes the guy from the British Airways adverts...You know Well he is a interesting thinker with a great wit, i don't know if I agree with everything he muses on, but, he does it in such a funny way that you can't help to see his point. In a way his style of persuasion is to hook you in with "hey we are pals" humour and "you like me, i like this perspective and if I can like it it can't be all that bad"....His rhetoric it seems is practical and example led and one I find the most powerful. I am sure that if P.J O'rourke was not a journalist he would have a very nice life as a zero sum thinking politician.....Well check it out....Eat the rich, a treatise on economics. Not bad for 99p in a charity shop....

Love Libraries.

Is it better to be a geek or a nerd? Personally I reckon the only difference here is that geeks have better personal hygiene and get laid more! Does that make me a geek?! I guess so, I do love knowledge.....Besides the point that geeks get laid more than nerds, I think the new logo for libraries is great. I was drunkly giving these bad boys badges out to the hipsters in Williamsburg, NY. A great merge of Ono and NY TMs. It could actually be used for promoting london in general! Unfortunately libraries and I have had a chequered history. I am glad credit referencing is not linked to them otherwise I would be totally fucked. I still have a copy of "The conker as hard as a diamond", I neglected to take back 14 years ago. I am sure the fees if collected would bankrupt a small business by now. Congrats to the library for this great logo. Before the internet you were king......now you are merely a duke.....but one with free internet use....for that we thank you! So go on then....Fall in love!
